Castle Combe Summer Action Day 2021
After a week long heatwave the weather (of course) turned a couple of hours before the 2021 running of Castle Combe’s ever popular Summer Action Day. As it happens, plenty of dreary, overcast weather is absolutely perfect for my photography style, so I didn’t mind the much cooler temperatures and moody skies one bit…
First up was a quick walk through the paddock, Action Days always throw up a few curios as well as the usual hot hatches and this year was no different…
Then it was on to the track action. Two things quickly became apparent…1) there were less ‘sheds’ on track than the years I used to regularly attend (mid 2010s), and 2) the overall driving standard has improved significantly. I’m not sure I would have taken a brand new GR Yaris on track if things were still like they were, but most seemed to be respecting the rules (i.e. not overtaking on corners) despite some incredible differences in speed out on track.
And finally for me (I was only able to attend in the morning) it was the ever spectacular drift demo. Drifting is rarely seen down here in the south so it’s always a thrill to get to experience it down here, the session certainly disappoint…
